    • Yes, companies are required to obtain a credit rating from a credit rating agency if they want to accept deposits from the public. The credit rating is necessary to ensure that the deposit-taking company has the financial capacity to repay the depositors' money.

Further, as per the Companies Act, 2013 and the rules thereunder, companies accepting deposits are required to file Form DPT-3 with the Registrar of Companies (RoC) on an annual basis. The Form DPT-3 requires the company to provide information about the deposits accepted and outstanding, and the credit rating obtained by the company from a credit rating agency.

Therefore, if a company wants to accept deposits and file Form DPT-3, it is required to obtain a credit rating from a credit rating agency and file the ratings in the Form DPT-3.
